UPDATE!!! My Super Mario Party was chosen as PARTY OF THE MONTH for JUNE 2011 on The Children’s Party Network! Thank you to all who voted for me! It is really an honor.
This year, my son wanted a Super Mario Bros. birthday party! Actually he wanted a Super Mario Bros party last year, but I talked him into a Robots & Rockets party since my party business already had these cool party supplies. So when it came up again this year, I had to make good and give him the party he always wanted! It was so much fun creating and designing all of these party goods and I am excited to share with you these super fun & easy party ideas.
I was so inspired as I searched for great party ideas and it was a blast creating all of the details! I first created the party invitations! My son thought he looked great as Super Mario! I used the same circle picture of him as Mario to make return address labels for the envelopes.
I created a welcome sign out of cardboard cake plates, scrapbooking paper and custom printed images I created. This immediately got moved to my son’s room door after the party.
The party hats were especially fun to create! My son had a lot of input into the final designs. I create designs for party hats exclusively for my party business so it was fun to create these!
But the most fun was creating all of the goodies for the Super Mario candy bar! And the cute labels to go with it!
So they aren’t actually “cake pops” but they are donut holes from Krispy Kreme dipped in green colored chocolate with white fondant circles. A lot less time than the traditional cake pops and just as yummy!
Star chocolate molds made this super cute star power candy!
Chocolate covered Oreo cookies with molded candy stars!
Atomic Fire Balls! Get 15 for $1 from Party City.
Seriously, it doesn’t get any easier than a bucket of large marshmallows! And if you can get Cadbury’s Chocolate Egg candy, those are really Yoshi’s eggs, but I found Gobstoppers and they worked just as well.
The Mario Mustaches were a huge hit with all of the kids! And so easy to make with chocolate mustache molds and dark chocolate candy melts. I took a photo of each of our party guests with the Super Mario hat & a mustache and included them in our thank you notes. A great keepsake for everyone and we now have a great “lineup” of all of our party guests for our photo album!
But the show stopper of the entire party were the cupcakes! The fondant Super Mario cupcake toppers from LIVCreativity were absolutely AMAZING!!!
At the end of the party, all of our guests got to fill up a treat bag with items from our candy bar. I found the bags at Hobby Lobby and made custom labels for each of the bags. I actually had all of the labels personalized so everyone would know which bag belonged to who.
To offset all of the sweets, we made sure to have plenty of water on hand…Power Up Water that is!
And for the ultimate Super Mario party favor…chocolate Wii remotes molded with white candy melts! To ensure they wouldn’t break, I added a thin layer of foam core behind the chocolate and for an added party favor, I slipped a Wii Remote skin in a Super Mario Bros design in the back of each package. I tied a personalized favor tag to each one that said “Game Over! Wii thank you for coming to Cole’s party!” Everyone loved these!

Love Love Love all the Mario Party Ideas. Wondering what you did for entertainment at the party? thanks.
Amy's Party Ideas says
Sloane, thanks for asking! I forgot to mention those details 🙂 We took everyone's mario picture with teh hat & a mustache when they first arrived. Then we played several games outside: We had a "Toad toss" which was a water balloon toss. We had a "Goomba Smash" where I tied a brown balloon to each child's ankle and they had to chase each other and pop the balloon…whoever had the last balloon won! And we played "One-Up" where we had a big light ball and stood in a circle and we passed it to each other trying to keep it up in the air without letting it fall (kind of like volleyball without the net). After the games, we went in and had cupcakes & sang happy birthday and then I let them play the Super Mario Bros Wii game until their parents came.

Can you provide or tell me where you got the ice power clip art? Also, can you provide the star templates that you used for the signs for the candy containers? I love what you did, so creative!

Kimba says
I'd love to know what you did for plates, silverware, napkins and the table cover.
Amy's Party Ideas says
Hi Kimba! I got some Super Mario Bros. Dinner Plates, Super Mario Bros. Napkins, and I also mixed in some Red and White Dot Beverage Napkins for an added touch. We didn't have any tablecloths but you could always do a solid blue one for a fresh addition to the red & white palate!
Or you could get everything including the balloons I used in this Super Mario Brothers Standard Party Pack for 16!
The balloons were really fun too! I used Red and White Polka Dot Balloons and Blue Balloons with Clouds! So fun!

Hi can you please tell me where you got the cupcake stand or how you made it…need one asap for my son's Mario party this Saturday. Thanks!
Amy {Amy's Party Ideas} says
Hi Lisa! The cupcake stand is a Wilton 4-Tier Stacked Cupcake and Dessert Tower. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby but I have seen them at Michael's as well. You could also possibly order one from Amazon (the link is above) and receive it before Saturday. I just used red dot wrapping paper and double stick tape to trim the edges of each tier. Hope that helps!

I want to do the games, and wondered if you gave "prizes" for the winners. I worry about a group of 5-6yr olds getting upset when they don't win. How did your games go, and did you give out prizes??
Amy's Party Ideas says
Hi Annie! Yes, I did give prizes but only to the winners…my group was 6-7 year olds and they were okay with it. We quickly moved into the cupcakes and candy bar after the games so they were happy to get their own bag of goodies!
The prizes I gave were actually a couple of little things I picked up at Party City…Mario themed notebook & pencil, Mario Bomb candy container, and Mario Kart themed pez like dispenser….so the prizes weren't so grand that the others wished they had them. (smile)
One idea would be to distribute bags for the kids to fill up from the candy bar after the last game and the winners go first…then everyone is getting a "prize" but the winners earned their spots first in line…Good luck and have a SUPER party!
