FOURTEEN! Time is moving so fast but I have to say, I am really enjoying his teenage years. He has a wonderful group of friends who all really enjoy hanging out together so parties are always fun with this group. But, how do you entertain 15 teenagers for a birthday party and not go broke? You do a Float-n-Swim party and have everyone bring a float! We also had a game truck come for half of the party time and then followed up with a night swim pool party. So fun! I’m sharing all the details after the photos so scroll on through and have fun planning your pool party!
So, have you seen all the
big pool floats in stores lately? They used to only be available in the boutique shops, but they are everywhere now and available for every budget. My son always wants one when we see them, so this year he decided he wanted a pool party with all those big floats! Thankfully he has a summer birthday so we had a “Float-n-Swim” party! He picked out this octopus float and the cherries float as his favorites.
The party was simple but the kids had a blast! We had a game truck to start the party. We had a game truck party a few years ago but this was our first one since we moved and the kids loved it! We used Cyber Game Truck and it was really cool. They can entertain up to 32 players at once and they even had a virtual reality cockpit that the kids really loved trying. It was so fun to see them try to drive. It’s a good thing they have a few more years before driving is their reality.
After time spent on the game truck, we went inside and enjoyed dinner and cake and ice cream. Dinner was simple and light. I made varieties of deli sandwiches and wrapped them in fun food safe paper I picked up at Target. I added printable labels to each wrapper so they knew what kind of sandwich they were choosing. Sandwiches, chips, watermelon, mango peach punch and water completed our menu.
The cake was a hit too! I planned to order a cake for him but he asked me to bake a cake at home instead. Sweet boy! He wanted key lime cake so I made a key lime flavored bundt cake and covered it in a key lime glaze. Then I topped it with an assortment of themed custom cookies, gumballs, candy, and blue icing to look like pool water. The kids loved it and chose their piece based on the toppings they would get with their slice.
I loved creating all of the printable party supplies for this theme. The poster is probably my favorite. A fun idea would be to have all of the kids sign the poster at the party. This makes a great keepsake to hang up in their room after the party. The poster is so easy to create too. Just have your local print shop print it out. I love using Walgreens photo. They print the same day and always have a coupon. I had mine printed for $12.00 and picked it up within an hour. It is sized to print 20″x30″ and I just used some spray glue to attach it to a piece of 20″x30″ foam core board I picked up at my local craft store. I didn’t have to cut anything to make this poster.
After cake and ice cream, they all grabbed their floats and headed to the pool for a night swim. There is nothing better than swimming at night in the summer. The temperature is still warm, and when the sun goes down you can enjoy sitting out there without getting hot or needing sunscreen!
For favors, I bought white aluminum water bottles and added their names in vinyl that I cut with my silhouette machine. I finished them by tying on a printable favor tag. They were definitely a hit at the party. Teenagers always need a water bottle and having their name on it, helps them keep up with it. (wink!)
So another party in the books! He really enjoyed this one and I continue to be grateful that he still likes a themed party to celebrate his special day. Have fun! And happy summer!
