I purchased my home this Spring and I have been busy updating a few things around the house. Today I am sharing my new powder room! It is truly one of my favorite spaces in my entire house right now.
I love to entertain, and in normal times we have people in our home as often as possible. One space that is often overlooked but just as important when hosting friends and family is the powder room. Read on to see how I updated my space to be party ready!
I spend a lot of time getting my house clean and ready for entertaining and the powder room is the one space most guests will see. My background as an interior designer has allowed me to create beautiful spaces for clients over the years, but this time I finally got to do it for myself.
One of the things I wanted in my new powder room was a larger area for usable counter space and some decor. My old sink was a pedestal sink and while it saves space, there is not much space for anything else other than the soap. So I created a floating quartz counter with a tall decorative backsplash and a gold wall mounted faucet. Touches like these make this room extra special.
I love having the hand towel draped on the counter and a beautiful soap dish with handmade soap. Another thing I do when we have company is to have a soft scented candle burning. It provides a soft light when the main lights are turned off that gives just enough brightness to find the switch. Before, the only space for the candle was on the back of the toilet and that always made me nervous…I didn’t want someone’s hair to catch fire or to have it knocked off. Now I have a beautiful counter to sit it on.
I created a focal point by adding wallpaper. I only needed one roll of wallpaper for the entire back wall. I love the trellis pattern and the subtle metallic sheen to this wallpaper by F. Schumacher. It also did a great job disguising the less than perfect dry wall patch job I did when I had to patch the holes we made when we converted the plumbing to a wall mounted faucet. (wink!)
The modern vanity light in a gold finish along with a simple gold framed mirror put the final touches on my new powder room. I just love how it all came together.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a true before photo. The powder room was painted navy blue with a mismatch faucet, light fixture and a pedestal sink. I was too eager to get it all out in time for the plumber and the stone company to come template for the new counter. But here is a progress photo from the day the counters were installed.
The powder room is now ready for guests again. I can’t wait until our home is full of friends and family again!
