tips and tricks
Movie Night Bar Cart-4_1

Print out ice cream container labels and tie a wooden spoon to each container with black and white bakers twine. When the party starts, scoop ice cream into the containers and let the kids fill it with a variety of toppings!

Movie Night Bar Cart-18_1
Add a variety of movie candy to clear trays to create an ice cream toppings bar. You can purchase boxed candy for around $1 per box. This is a great way to serve up movie candy without buying a box for each guest. Print out our movie party labels and add to your cart for extra fun!

Using a popcorn popper to pop your own popcorn is a great way to feed a large crowd without breaking the bank. I like to toss the popped corn in some movie theater butter and sprinkle with a little salt while it’s still hot.

Movie Night Bar Cart-22_1

Print out our popcorn bar sign, cut it out and tape it to the front of a white stand frame.  Place the frame on top of a small cake plate and add a variety of popcorn seasonings to the cake plate.

Put out a big bowl of popcorn with snack bags and have your guests scoop some popcorn and flavor it.

PRINTABLE CLAPPERBOARD DRINK SIGN $5
Fill a large drink tub with a variety of soda, water bottles, and ice. Print out our clapperboard drink sign and cut it out.  Attach it to your drink tub using decorative rope.  This sign is great because you can edit the file to print the date of your party!

Make your own movie seats by cutting two piece of plywood at 16″ (h) x 18″ (w). Attach the two pieces together with piano hinges. Along the bottom of the inside edge of each piece of plywood, screw two pieces of 1×2 board. Screw two 5″ screws through the top of each 1×2 board to piece the ground and hold the seat backs in place. These seat backs make movie watching so comfortable!

Setup a movie projector to watch your favorite movies. For less than $100, you can get a great projector that syncs with your smartphone so you can stream movies directly to the projector. So easy!

Setting up a DIY movie screen is easy to do! Add grommets to blackout screen fabric and wrap around two columns (or trees) and secure with bungee cords.

I invested in the blackout movie screen fabric a couple of years ago and the picture quality of the movie is dramatically better. The blackout coating on the fabric allows all of the projected light to stay on the front of the fabric rather than allowing some of it to shine through. It is really amazing!

party timeline

3 WEEKS OUT: Pick a date for your party and determine your guest list. It’s always a good idea to check with your guests to be sure most of them are available for your date. Now is the time to order any party supplies and decor items that will need to be shipped to you.

2 WEEKS OUT: Print and mail out your invitations. Guests still love getting a physical invitation to your party. If you choose to go paperless, use an image of your custom invitation to text or upload it to an online invitation service to track your RSVP’s.

ONE WEEK OUT: Download any printable files and cut them out and assemble. Having your party supplies ready before your party day will allow you to include these custom touches without rushing to get them done.

TWO DAYS BEFORE YOUR PARTY: Set up as much of your decor as you can. I like to use this time to fuss over the details. Create your party but wait to add any food, flowers or balloons.

ONE DAY BEFORE THE YOUR PARTY: Purchase all of your food and any flowers or balloons that you are going to use. Prep any recipes that can be made ahead of time to save effort on the day of your party.

PARTY DAY! Do any final touches to your party decor and create all of your remaining menu items today. Try to coordinate your cook times so that you will finish just before your guests arrive. My dad says the key to a great party is everything hitting the table at the same time and still hot! 🙂  Be sure to take lots of pics to remember what a great time you all had and most of all, HAVE FUN!
