Welcome to the Neighbor’s Table! In the town I grew up in, there is an organization called Village Friends and they setup one long table for everyone to dine at once a year. You just show up and sit next to whoever is there. It is a wonderful way to get to know the people in your community. I love the idea of having a gathering place for my neighbor’s to share a meal, so I created The Neighbor’s Table! Be sure to scroll down to see all of the details after the photos.
I love my neighborhood and getting together with my neighbors! But I realized that some of my neighbors didn’t really know each other although we live literally next door to one another. So, I created invitations for a potluck dinner and put them in each neighbor’s mailbox and our dinner party was in the works!
There is a beautiful green space between two homes so we chose that as our meeting place. I set up folding tables and covered them with these gorgeous tablecloths from Tablevogue. These are my go-to tablecloths for any event because they are tailored to fit my exact folding table size and they go all the way to the ground. No flimsy, short tablecloths for me!
I used farm benches for seating which makes it easy to gather a crowd around the table. I set the table with linen napkins and plastic gold cutlery. Flowers in a small vase from the grocery store made for a beautiful arrangement.
I set up a small farm table off to the side of our long table to serve as a place for our potluck food! A large sea glass vase and a printable sign welcomed everyone to the table.
We strung party lights between the two houses and one of my neighbors brought some really great wine that is nitrate free (no headaches!) and the party started.
It was a wonderful dinner! The kids played well after dark while the adults sat at the table and got to know each other. My favorite thing I overheard that night were two of my neighbors saying they had no idea how much fun they would have and that they couldn’t believe they have lived next door to one another for five years and missed all that time hanging out.
Our first Neighbor’s Table dinner was a success! We left the party lights up and plan to get together at the table once a month this summer!
This is a really easy dinner party to throw and here are links to some of the products we used for ours. Get outside and enjoy one another.
