The holiday season is upon us and that means I will be baking my mother’s pumpkin bread recipe for gifting this season. I love to bake homemade gifts for our friends and that often means hours in the kitchen. I usually set a couple of days aside and just bake everything at once. Then I can create an assembly line for packaging up all the goodies and get them ready to deliver all at one time.
One thing that gets me every year is after baking in the kitchen all day, the last thing I want to do is cook dinner. So when I was in my local Kroger and discovered this amazing deal, I was thrilled! I love a delicious meal without the effort.
Kroger loyalty members can purchase a fresh ready to heat pizza for $5.99 and save a $1 off a 1.25L Coca-Cola™ beverage or 1L DASANI® (making the drink nearly free)! (valid through 12/3/17 – 1/3/18)
The pizzas are in the deli section just before the prepared foods. There are several flavors to choose from and they are really good!
Knowing dinner is taken care of really lets me focus on baking. So time to get the pumpkin bread started.
My mom wrote out the recipe for me years ago on a piece of paper. I keep it in a box of baking supplies in my pantry and every year, I pull it out to follow her recipe. I will share it below.
This recipe makes 2 large loaf pans or several mini loaf pans. I use aluminum mini loaf pans for gifting to my son’s teachers but for my neighbors and close friends, I found cute ceramic mini loaf dishes. They even came with a bread knife!
After they baked, I let them cool completely. To package them up, I wrapped patterned cellophane and tied it with candy cane stripe ribbon. I tied the bread knife to the outside of the package and finished it off with my free printable gift tag. So cute!
By the way, these loafs freeze really well so you can bake as many as you want and after they cool, just wrap them up and store in a freezer safe bag until you are ready to give them away. Just let them thaw on the counter until they are room temperature before wrapping them up. I like to keep a few on hand in the freezer and pull them out for hostess gifts a day before attending a party.
Now that you’ve gotten your baking done, sit down and enjoy a delicious pizza and Coca-Cola dinner for a great price thanks to the Kroger deal!
Merry Christmas, friends!
