Every year when the holidays arrive, one of my favorite traditions is watching our most loved holiday movies together as a family! With all the parties we host during the season, some of our sweetest memories are from time spent just being together. I’ve got a few simple ideas that will make your family movie night a hit with your loved ones this year.
This year I decided to make movie night a little more festive in the theme of one of our favorite holiday movies, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I made some green Rice Krispies Grinch Heart Treats and I added heart candies in different sizes because “they say, his heart grew three sizes that day!” These are so easy to make…be sure to see my step by step how to make these down below. I also made a few Corn Flakes wreaths for another sweet treat. These are exactly the same recipe as the Rice Krispies Treats but you use Corn Flakes instead of the Rice Krispies. The wreaths are a family tradition passed down from my mom. She used to make the treat as one large wreath using a bundt pan. Over the years I made them smaller, but it brings back sweet memories of past holidays.
A fun touch was adding free printable Grinch hearts to my party straws and a printable sign. Small cups of popcorn to eat along with our Rice Krispies Grinch Heart Treats made for a yummy sweet and salty combo! These traditions we share in our own family year after year, make my heart grow three sizes too!
So grab a blanket, a few special treats, your collection of holiday movies and cozy up with your loved ones and enjoy a holiday family movie night!
Ready to make some Rice Krispies Grinch Heart Treats for your holiday movie night? Start with The Original Treats Recipe. When your marshmallows have melted, add a few drops of green food coloring and stir before continuing with the recipe. Once you have your Rice Krispies mixed in with your green marshmallows, spray a piece of parchment paper with cooking spray and a heart cookie cutter as well. Take a handful of the Rice Krispies Treat mix and press into the heart cookie cutter to shape it. Remove the cookie cutter and repeat. A tip: Spray your hands with cooking spray….a lot of cooking spray….to make it easier to handle the mix. After you finish creating the hearts, add heart shaped candy in different sizes to each one. Refrigerate to cool and set the treats and enjoy!

Hi! How many Rice Krispie treats does this make?
Amy says
Hi Aimee! The number of treats it makes will depend on your cutter size and how thick you make each one. Mine was a smaller heart cookie cutter…around 2″ or 2.5″ and it made approximately 15 hearts. I actually didn’t count how many when I made them. I just made them until I ran out of rice krispie mix 🙂 Hope that helps a little.

These are super cute! We are making these for a party and I have a few questions. 1. Did the mix stay pliable to form all the hearts one by one? 2. Where did you get your red candy hearts?
Amy says
Hi Carol! Thank you for your sweet words! Yes, the mix stays pliable until you put them in the refrigerator to cool. I didn’t have any problems forming them one by one. And what i found to be the easiest, was to spray the cookie cutter with cooking spray and then take some mix and press it into the cookie cutter (rather than trying to spread the mix out and then cut the shapes out). And for the candy hearts, the extra large hearts were out of a candy decoration set that spelled out LOVE where the heart was in place of the ‘O’ but here is a link to some jumbo hearts (may not be extra large, but will be larger than normal) and the reviews had a lot of people saying they were perfect for their Grinch treats! https://amyspartyideas.com/red-candy-hearts
Hope that helps! Have fun!
