When I was growing up, we always traveled to my grandmother’s home in Alabama for a big Southern family Thanksgiving. The dining room wasn’t big enough to seat us all at the same table, so there was a kids’ table in the kitchen. Despite being secluded in the kitchen, we all had fun being unsupervised with our cousins. But it was a true rite of passage as each year, one of us would become old enough to move into the dining room with the rest of the grown-ups. It was a big deal to graduate out of the kids table.
We still gather together year after year but now at my aunt’s home where there is room for all of us to be in the same space together. However, it’s still special to be a kid at the kids’ table. So I stopped in Swoozie’s and picked up the cutest goodies to make this year’s table a hit with all the little ones.
Turkey headbands at each place setting are a great way to start the fun. Can’t wait to see the photos from this year!
A personalized place card for each child to write what he or she is thankful for is another activity for them to do while waiting for dinner to be served. I put a cup full of colored pencils on the table for them to use as they color and write. The kraft paper table runner gives them plenty of room to get creative.
I picked up some cute napkins and cups to remind them that “the kids’ table rocks!” And colorful wooden forks are a fun alternative to disposable cutlery.
I love the idea of a little sweet treat for each child to take home to remember how much fun they had at the kids’ table this year! These packaged chocolate chip cookie favors are perfect.
However you plan to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, I hope it’s one filled with love, laughter and plenty of good food to eat! I’d love to hear your memories of sitting at the kids’ table when you were growing up. Leave a comment and share your favorite ones below. I’d love to relive the memories with you!
